Starting Point

Written Goals
Writing crystallizes thought and thought motivates action! Begin to compile a list of what you would like to accomplish during the rest of your life. List both tangible (things) and intangible (identity) goals.
You may want to consider such areas of your life as: Professional, Social, Financial, Spiritual, Family, Health, Sports, and Educational.
After completing this list, go back and arrange them in order of their priority — most important to least important. As you do this, be careful your priorities are not all coming from one area of your life. In your Plan-of-Action notebook, starting with Goal #1, begin to write out just how you plan to go about achieving your goals. It is OK to use your eraser and lots of paper.
How To Deal With Roadblocks And Setbacks

When you have done this for the high-priority goals, write next to each goal where the potential roadblocks and setbacks might occur. Then, assuming they will actually happen, how will you handle them? This may be the toughest part of the program, but I never said making your life happen would be easy. The only thing easy in life is running around shouting, “What happened?”

Decide upon a realistic “when” for each of your goals.
Once you have chosen a date to accomplish each of your goals, break each goal down into smaller segments of minor goals. Select date accomplished times for these shorter-range goals.
After all, if you were going to eat an elephant, you wouldn’t gulp him down. You would eat him one slice at a time!

Go!

Using your plan and its checkpoints, act on it! You will begin to notice a new internal enthusiasm for life! What you have to do on a daily basis won’t seem as painful and/or difficult, because you will know why you are doing it.

Will there be times when fear, doubt, worry and discouragement creep in? Yes, but remember, John F. Kennedy set a goal for America to be on the moon in ten years. It happened in seven. If man got to the moon, you can achieve your goals!
On three by five cards, list those goals most important to you and have them with you all the time. Keep looking at them. Keep updating the cards. They will motivate you to keep going.
Reward System

Your adult-self knows it is a good idea to work your plan. Your child-self needs a reason why. Feed it! As part of your goals program, decide up-front how you intend to satisfy the instant gratification needs of your child-self, and then pay off as you accomplish your short-range goals.
Review
Nothing is carved in marble. As often as you like, step back and take a look at your big picture. Want to make a change? Go ahead. It’s your life.
A famous baseball player once said, “It is what you learn after you know it all that counts!”
You now have a goals program you can use for your personal and professional life, as well as a tool to use in helping your salespeople accomplish more.

Here’s how Anthea put it in context for Forbes: To scale that, compare the total U.S. TV and cable advertising revenue for 2009, which is about $66 billion. The marketing dollars companies now spend on their own sites is equivalent to all TV ad revenue for the year. Eight years ago we said that the Global 2000 would be the dot-coms of tomorrow.

That’s what’s playing out. She says the shift is why she agrees with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s assement that global advertising isn’t just in a recession but has been “reset” at a lower level. “Advertising which has left the news industries is not going to come back in its same shape or form.”

Affordable advantage COLMBA

THE PROGRAMMES PREPARE GRADUATES FOR INTERNATIONAL-LEVEL PERFORMANCE. Demand is growing for post-graduate human resource training to increase the number of highly trained professionals required to maintain economic momentum and good governance. COL is playing a catalytic role in addressing this need in South Asia, directly benefiting individuals and the organisations in which they work, and thereby indirectly benefiting their societies. Upwardly mobile South Asian executives can now enrol in the Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration/Master of Public Administration Programmes (CEMBA/CEMPA, www.col.org/cemba ), taking the distance education courses wherever they live or work.

The Commonwealth Executive MBA/MPA has been offered since mid-2002 through four premier South Asian open universities: Bangladesh Open University (BOU), Indira Gandhi National Open University, (IGNOU, India), Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL), and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU, Pakistan), although the last, AIOU, began offering courses in early 2003. The CEMBA/CEMPA was designed, developed and implemented as a result of collaboration between the four universities and writers from universities in Commonwealth countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada. This was brokered by COL with funding assistance from the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation (CFTC).

The CEMBA/CEMPA focuses on optimising local productivity. Even better are the affordable fees, flexible study pace and seamless credit transfer between partner institutions offered to potential students. Courses feature relevant local learning materials and case studies, and cover everything from managing information and public systems to development planning and quality assurance. English is the lingua franca.

How long does it take to complete? Almost as long as learners want or have the time for within a five year period. Designed for part-time study by busy working professionals, the programmes can be completed by students at their own pace. As well, they don't have to take the full degree to benefit from the courses offered. Diploma and graduate diploma options are available. The full graduate degree requires a minimum of two years study up to a maximum of five years (although re-registration is possible after the expiry of five years).

The diploma option can be obtained in as little as one year. Learners receive certification from the institution they are accepted into. Admission requirements are streamlined across the four partner institutions. The programmes provide opportunities to acquire both accreditation and valuable training for candidates who are resident of a participating country, possess any sort of undergraduate degree (or have worked in a related field for at least two years) and can pass a test of professional experience and English fluency.

End-of-semester course evaluations are ongoing and an overall programme evaluation is underway.

Projections for the CEMBA/CEMPA promise a significant short- and long-term human and economic development pay-off for the SouthAsianCommonwealth region. As a working example of close regional collaboration, the CEMBA/CEMPA provides a template for the development of similar programmes elsewhere. To that end, COL has now discussed the development and promotion of a CEMBA/CEMPA programme with the National Open University of Nigeria, targeting learners in Commonwealth Africa as well with the Wawasen Education Foundation in Malaysia.

Flexible and Modular Programmes

The CEMBA/CEMPA programmes are designed for part-time study by busy working professionals, in response to the growing demands for post-graduate level education in business and public administration.

The flexible and modular programmes allow students to choose either Business Administration (MBA) or Public Administration (MPA) as their major field of study. In addition, students have the option of several exit points after earning a diploma, graduate diploma or a Masters degree. The minimum completion time for the Commonwealth Executive MBA or MPA is two years.

Top Quality Curriculum

Instructional materials for each course were developed by subject experts drawn from various institutions in the Commonwealth. Curriculum developers from universities in Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, India and Canada, wrote original course materials. Other courses were adapted and updated or acquired from existing courses at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK), Charles Stuart University (Australia), and Massey University (New Zealand). The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) is an intergovernmental organisation created by Commonwealth Heads of Government for the purpose of creating and improving access to education for citizens of the Commonwealth's 53 member nations. Through open and distance education, COL's goal is to help strengthen the capacity of member countries to develop the human resources required for their economic and social advancement. Open and distance learning is an important tool for expanding access to quality education and for promoting a culture of continuous professional development and life-long learning.

It is in this context that the Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration (CEMBA) and Executive Master of Public Administration (CMPA) programmes were developed by experts from across the Commonwealth and launched in 2002. Allama Iqbal Open University has achieved a landmark in its education by offering the Commonwealth International MBA/MPA programme for Executives (CIMBA/MPA), a new initiative in executive education for citizens of the Common wealth.This programme is the outcome of close collaboration between the Commonwealth of Learning and the national open universities of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.The CIMBA/MPA is designed to cater to the needs of the 21st century business perspective and for part-time study by busy working professionals, the programme can be completed by students at their own pace.The main idea, behind this program, is to support various functional areas of business and public sectors activities which helps professionals and busy executives to understand how business integration is achieved through managerial education and techniques.

CIMBA/MPA is committed to provide high quality professional education through the use of conventional and unconventional teaching methods. The admission to this programme will be offered on competitive merit, which will be determined on the basis of a specially designed Admissions Test. The candidates who hold a minimum second-class graduate degree and two years post qualification executive experience will be allowed to compete for admission and sit for the Admissions Test.
